This very quickly discusses vintage pianos compared to new pianos. It offers suggested reading including topics on Steinway pianos. Mr. Larry Fine's The Piano Book, 3rd Edition, available at the library or in bookstores, is an excellent source material. Pierce Piano Atlas, 10th Edition found in any public library is perhaps the ultimate Bible for finding out about your Packard or old Woofensnoofel antique piano. In "Piano History", there is some pertinent information on Square Grands and Upright Grands. Ms. Cynthia Boyd Hoover's "The Steinways and their Pianos in the 19th Century" is also featured as a very articulate article on 19th Century Steinway innovations. The Registered Piano Technicians Guild is also featured and linked in our Website at the Main Menu Links. We also mention alternatives to Steinways, and vintage instrument dealers/piano retailers.
