Vintage Pianofortes, Bear's Philosophy,

the Horse, the Water, and the Trough...

and Internet Marketing..."The Neighborhood Theory"

Bear's Rules and Marketing Philosophy in No Particular Order...

The maxim of the horse, water, and trough is very simple...

In Mississippi Delta talk:

"You can lead a horse to water, but if he ain't thirsty, he won't drink..."

Bear uses this to explain the actions of buyers, sellers, people in general, (as well as close relatives)!

The Steinway Syndrome -- If all you ever played or wanted on the Planet was a "Steinway"...

Then, the rest of us are probably better off with you just playing your Steinway...
While WE enjoy the rest of pianofortes on the Planet... including "the Steinway"...

The rest of us realize there is a whole Planet full of great pianofortes, new and vintage...
which includes the great Steinway, both Hamburg & New York, as well as Bösendorfer, Mason, Yamaha, Bechstein, Fazioli, Seiler...et cetera...et cetera...et cetera...et cetera..et cetera...

"The Ball is in Your Court..."or "Your Ball, Your Court...." or "Tennis, Anyone???"...

The Ole Bear can give you the information, but sure as heck can't decide what you should do.
I have enough work to do of my own, that I am not going to traipse over to your place and do your homework and legwork for you.... We all are 'sposed to be "all growed up!"

Do Your Homework!

Get some expert advice from several sources, learn how to read and research, make an effective decision, and get on with your life...

What's my $50 garage sale piano worth?

Perhaps $50??? If you have more money than Ben Stein, then shop the Internet and pay someone to tell you what you want to hear. I am not going to SNIGGLE (take) your money....

What is the Golden Bear Rule?

Something a lot of folks all over the Planet didn't learn when they were two years old...
Simply, if you treat folks the way you want to be treated, we'd all be a lot better off...
War, poverty, and a whole myriad of bad stuff might cease...

"What goes around comes around..."

Many Biblical variants of "one reaps what one sows..."
What goes around comes around is a little broader in Bear's view, because it encompasses the soul of the human experience...and is a good corollary to both the Golden Bear Rule and the Horse, Water, Trough.

The case of "The Emperor's New Clothes"

Need a good "fairy tale story"... or some folks, even Emperors, are just dumb suckers enough to believe every Tom, Dick, and Harry or the "Big Lie"... read Orwell's 1984.The main reason why vintage pianoforte education is very important to me...

Uncle Remus Tale of the "Tortoise and the Hare"

Slow but sure will eventually win the race...
if being there first is important to you, buy a Lamborghini...
Otherwise I'll take my '54 Ford...
Being Kool, is sometimes arriving fashionably late and in style...
and on ice, the Lamborghini can't stop any quicker than the ole Ford...

Everything will come to pass in its due time...

If we live our dreams every day...they just may come true when we are ready for them...
with the ultimate hope that they won't overpower our being later...or kick us in the behind.

Every dog will have his day, and every cat will mew...

Shakespearean: Hamlet, I believe... an important corollary to What Goes Around Comes Around... anything and everything may happen...
So don't go around kicking little puppies or kitty cats...

On the "Art of Fly fishing..."

If all I wanted to do was to catch trout, I would have brought "live bait"...

If all I wanted to do was catch trout, I'd be missing all this beautifully magnificent scenery...

I didn't come here to catch fish... I fly fish to think and clear my head...

Good things happen to those who wade...

Yes.... you guessed it... marketing vintage pianos is just like fly fishing... it is an art.... and sometimes art exists for its own sake without rhyme or reason...

Caveat Emptor

"Let the buyer beware" from the Latin. With our links to the Piano Technicians Guild for technicians and the existing yellow pages, if you want a second opinion...get off your behind and get it done. Protect yourself as a consumer. That's just plain old common sense...

Making Money on the Internet...the hot moneymaking wave of the future...

If I wanted to make million American Dollars on the Internet, I would probably sell CDs or Yachts.

My vintage pianoforte website is my love for these pianos, to provide a great marketing forum of like kind vintage, and to promote the restoration of them. There are also great newly manufactured pianoforte instruments... a vintage purchaser needs to know all of the possibilities to make a sound purchase decision.

These old pianos are part of our history and are worth preserving for future generations on our Planet...
No, they don't build them like they used to...
The technology is better today...

"Internet Marketing" and Vintage Pianofortes... "The Neighborhood Theory!"

A single listing on a webpage on the Internet does not have much credibility or venue to sell in cyberspace. A compilation of vintage pianoforte listings previously inspected by qualified piano technicians that are marketed by a Broker who stresses vintage pianoforte education as being more important than the "piano being a so-called investment piano", imparts recognition of their collective investment value by their association in cyberspace. This compilation of vintage pianoforte listings imparts market desirability to the customer or prospective purchaser. The technician's inspection, factual representation, along with the visual images of each investment grade pianoforte, both quantifies and qualifies the sellers' asking prices as well as the soundness of the pianoforte investments without false promises or smoke and mirrors. As taken from Real Estate Appraisal, this is Bear's "Neighborhood Theory."

However, purchasers should seek a second piano technician report, if in doubt, and are encouraged to do so, as Caveat Emptor always applies in Bear's Rule Book.

The Internet and cyberspace is the most rapidly expanding marketing medium since the invention of  the printing press in the 1500s. The Internet for most entrepreneurs is composed of being able to sell high volume at discount prices or merely providing information about one's goods, services, and wares that are available. A single line listing for "Piano for Sale" with an asking price and a seller's email address is not the way we envision marketing investment grade vintage pianoforte instruments. How can a prospective customer even know what they are looking at? Further, how can a buyer or seller quantify and qualify price without similar groupings of like kind alternatives to make them cognizant of the market? That is why one good vintage pianoforte listing in our website is far superior to having 500 old clunker pianos for sale.

Most grand cases have around 12,000 moving parts... CDs have only one... we try to take some of the unknown factors out of using cyberspace as a National and International Marketing Venue for Vintage Pianofortes... We believe that the Internet along with Email has the ability to effectively market and promote the vintage pianoforte worldwide... the way we do it.

To my surprise, our first closed sale was from Canada to the USA... and a Square Grand to boot...!
Just goes to show how very little I know...
